Maia Magoga is a London-born Brazilian / Argentinian artist and facilitator working at the intersection of food, image-making and social-arts. Moving between the social and ecological dimensions of food, Maia is interested in the ways it connects communities while also shaping the landscapes around us. She considers food to be her primary love language, a ritual tool for sharing magic and a space for collective healing.
Thinking about the poetic potential of what we ingest being the literal chord that connects us to our outside world, Maia understands food - and its innate ecological and social entanglements - to be an invitation into deeper connection with everything around us. She explores this through various avenues like foraging, cooking, performative meals, workshops, printed matter, writing and drawing.
She has an MA from the RCA in Visual Communication where she was awarded the Gordon Peter-Pickard research grant, and a BA in Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester. Maia also co-founded gobyfish collective in 2019. They host experimental dinners and create edible offerings that centre dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange.
