Exploring notions of slow violence, ‘Walking Through A Formless Thing’ was a short moving-image piece and series of digital tapestries touching on the insidious nature of our dominant sociopolitical structures. Using the candle as an emblem of time-keeping, this piece touches on the multi-temporal existence we collectively inhabit, and suggests a shift outwards, into a deep time, an anti-capitalist time, while simultaneously remaining rooted in our present reality. Reflecting on Boaventura de Sousa Santos' 'Ecology of Knowledges' theory, ‘Walking Through A Formless Thing’ contemplates hegemonic knowledge production in tangent with ancestral ways of knowing that are rooted in the land.
